Tyson, a native of North Carolina, and Gina, from Texas, met in 2006, in Raleigh, North Carolina, after their university years. They were married in 2008 and have two little boys, Samuel and Luke.
After college, Tyson spent three years in Paraguay as an educator, serving the local Church and mentoring youth. During that time, he became fluent in Spanish and developed a love for the Paraguayan people. Tyson has taught English as a second language (ESL), both in the USA and abroad, in community settings as well as in local jails.
In 2011, Tyson and Gina travelled together on a vision trip to Mozambique, Africa, where they served for one month. That experience led to their decision to return there in 2013 for long-term work in community transformation in rural areas, educating, mentoring, and meeting physical and spiritual needs.
After a 4-month bout with Malaria, and various other illnesses, it was decided that returning to the States for more medical testing would be best for Tyson’s family. The adversity in his family’s mission experience served to strengthen his faith (James 1:2-5), Kingdom mindset (Phil. 1:29), and to realign his understanding of the responsibility and role he has, as a husband and a father (Ephesians 5:25, Mathew 24:42-43). Encountering and passing through these hardships triggered a redemptive process of transformation and an experiential knowledge of God’s goodness and faithfulness in Tyson’s life that could not have been obtained in any other way (Psalm 84:5-7 AMP).
Over the past 14 years, Tyson’s worked with a wide range of people from different cultures and socio-economic backgrounds, and nothing has given him more joy than journeying with people in their walk with God or as they search for God. He enjoys helping people in the process of self-discovery, especially where it concerns their vocation or calling. His motivation and desire to see people realize their value and role in The Kingdom has developed a passion in him for education, training, equipping, and discipleship. Tyson is honored to have the privilege to serve with TEAM!
