I was born and raised in Japan, came back after college to do evangelism and church-planting with Ralph Cox. I got my seminary education at Columbia International University. Returning to Japan, I met Violette. We were married in 1985 and had our first assignment in the city of Fukuyama. Both of our sons were born there. Since then we have been in the city of Akaiwa, cooperating with a larger Japanese church in developing Sakuragaoka Christian Church. although it has taken many years to see results, the church now has its own building and pastor. Our next step is to help the church to continue to develop its vision for reaching the community for Christ.

We have mostly used English conversation as a means to develop relationships with the people. Volunteer work in the community has broadened our contact with more people. For those who express more interest in Christ, we have Bible studies during the week in Japanese. One question I always ask myself: How can we make the Church of Jesus Christ more visible in a culture that has traditionally had nothing to do with it.
We have come to love the Japanese people very much. It is sad and frustrating to see how bound they are to the traditions and expectations that are accepted as normal in their society.
Primary Prayer Request:
We pray that Sakuragaoka Christian Church would continue to develop, have effective outreach in the community, disciple its members to start home meetings that would eventually become churches, and have a world vision that extends from Japan to all over the world.
