I responded to the opportunity to receive Jesus in my life at the age of 7, when the Vacation Bible School teacher told us of God's love, a home in heaven with him, and the sin that keeps us away. I wanted that love, that home, that cleansing from my sin, so I raised my hand to show my desire, prayed with the teacher, and that was the beginning of an incredible journey with the Lord always by my side.
I continued in Sunday School and Youth as I grew up, learning more about Jesus and his love. I always enjoyed services when missionaries came; they showed pictures and told stories of God working in far away places. I was more than intrigued.
After college, while attending a missions conference, God spoke to me about going to one of those far away places. I said yes, with great excitement. .
I've been privileged to serve in both Zimbabwe and now South Africa. They are, indeed, far away places from my birthplace, but very close to home in my heart. People and needs are the same, worldwide, and I'm grateful that God has a place for me, and that He continues to show me where He wants me and what He has for me to do.
Although I help out in a variety of administrative functions, my primary focus has been in the field of education. From primary school children, to University students, my primary role has been carried out in the classroom. In Zimbabwe the focus was on children in the primary grades; in South Africa I have worked with University-level students--including training them to teach children.
Recently I've begun re-connecting with the little ones, becoming involved once again in teaching and establishing children's Bible clubs. I'm looking forward to more direct involvement with them, and with those who desire training to work with them in the near future.
Primary Prayer Request:
Children here do not receive high priority attention. Many are abused, neglected, and infected with HIV or other diseases, subjected to prostitution and trafficking. Pray for Lord to touch hearts willing to reach out to these precious children with the message of the gospel, and to help in any other ways they can.
The children are eager and willing to learn; they simply need teachers.
Pray also for wisdom in choosing locations and teachers which/who will be best able to reach many. Pray for safety, security, and freedom for the children to attend--and meet Jesus.
