My Story

Conversion: I was raised by Christian parents and at the age of 5 in a children’s meeting, I accepted Christ as my Savior.

Call: I was baptized at the age of 13, committing my life to whatever and wherever God would send me. Every summer, our church hosted a week-long missions conference that impressed me with the needs of the world. Later, in my freshman year at Biola University, I committed myself to overseas missionary service at the annual missions conference.

Education: Biola University, La Mirada, CA - B.A. - Intercultural Studies, 1979

Field Experience: While waiting for visas for Irian Jaya, we went to India and Sri Lanka for a year in 1982. This was especially challenging taking our 8 month old son, Kevin, with us. My main ministry was as wife and mother, but I also taught my first ladies Bible study. From then on, I have always been involved in teaching women. We went to Seoul, South Korea from 1984-1995. There I helped with church planting, hospitality, and making a home for Brian, Kevin, and Nathan. I taught a ladies Bible study at the church the whole time I was there. I also worked in the TEAM office as bookkeeper and later was the Field Treasurer and on the Field council.

We came to Durban, South Africa in 1996 with 2 sons in high school. We were able to enroll them in an Accelerated Christian Education (ACE) school which prepared them well for their college acceptance later. I helped at Durban Bible College first as the bookkeeper/office manager and then transferred to the Registrar's office. I also worked extensively on the college's application for accreditation. One of my greatest joys is teaching Cultural Anthropology to first year students. Even though South Africa is a rainbow nation of many cultures, the students have never really been exposed to seeing the world through another's eyes. I have also been a regular ladies Bible study teacher at our church.

Ministry Focus:

Currently I am the office manager and bookkeeper for TEAM here in Southern Africa as well as working part-time at DBC in the Registrar's office. I enjoy meeting with and counselling the women students. I also teach Cultural Anthropology every year. And the best part is making a home for my wonderful husband, Brian :)
