Give the Gospel for Christmas

John Nicely

My Story

Growing up in a Christian family, I was exposed to missions from a young age. While I grew in my faith I sought the Lord's direction, but it was not towards missions, at least not at first. God lead me to study engineering and I worked in that field for many years. My wife and I served in our local church but our engagement with missions was through prayer and giving. That, however, changed when God called us to meet an emergency need for Teachers at Christiansen Academy, a school for missionary children in Rubio, Venezuela. During that time, and through that experience, we came to understand God's calling to long-term service.

We returned to the U.S., went back to school, and continued our preparation to return to Venezuela. We spent seven more years there serving in various roles, including teaching, administration, esl, and community outreach, When the school in Venezuela closed, we moved to another school, Evangelical Christian Academy, near Madrid, Spain. For eight years we served in similar roles of teaching, leadership, and outreach. In 2010, TEAM asked us to return to the U.S. where we serve in areas of missionary support services, helping missionaries minister as effectively as possible.
