My Story

I grew up in northeast Ohio as a sports lover and Jesus-follower. God blessed me with a wonderful, Christian family where I was exposed to the love of Jesus at an early age. At the age of 7, I made a decision to trust Jesus as my Savior and this has affected my life ever since.

While in high school, the Lord gave me a unique desire and ability to learn Spanish. By that point, I had never even been outside of the United States! I continued learning Spanish and the Lord continued to increase my desire and longing to work with Hispanics, their culture and their language. I loved everything about it.

Due to my love for Spanish, I decided to study Spanish at Mount Union College in Alliance, OH where I received my B.A. in Spanish. During that time, I was able to study abroad in Mexico City for a semester. I had the awesome opportunity to spend that time with a missionary couple there who ended up deeply affecting my life and deepening my desire to become a missionary. After college, I taught Spanish for 3 years in the Chicagoland area.

My husband and I have had many opportunities to travel in Latin America since we have been married and are anxious to work and serve the Lord in Latin America in the upcoming years.

Family:

My husband is Justin Burkholder. We have been married since May of 2008. He's the best!

Ministry Focus:

I have always loved teaching and taught high school Spanish in the states before moving to Guatemala. I am a teacher through and through but my ministry focus changed from teaching to a mother role 2 years ago when my daughter, Isabella was born. I still teach English twice a week but my primary ministry focus is my daughter (and our soon to be daughter #2).

I also am involved in discipleship and women's Bible studies.

Primary Prayer Request:

We have a few main prayer requests:

1. We have many people that have expressed a desire to grow in their faith and knowledge of the Lord and His Word. Pray for wisdom, love and genuine relationship and honesty as we study and grow together. God is greatly working in our church/congregation and we are so excited to see lives transformed through the gospel message.

2. Justin and I are expecting our second child (Olivia) in July 2016 so pray for health and safety over the next few months for Baby Burkholder and me. We are super excited, but also nervous to add another. :)
